New KDMC chief acts against hawkers outside Kalyan-Dombivli railway stations

KALYAN: After focusing on cleanliness, the new Commissioner of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Dr Indumati Jakhar, has intensified actions against illegal hawkers in the market areas of twin cities.On Friday, the KDMC took action against several illegal hawkers on the busy roads near Kalyan station and the market area.The civic bodys action—spanning from Deepak Hotel to Pushparaj Hotel, and from there to Shivaji Chowk in the main market—has brought immense relief to passersby and motorists who often face congestion due to hawkers.The operation was led by K-ward officer Tushar Sonawane, whose team seized 12 handcarts, 15 stalls, and removed 10 illegal sheds.KDMC sources revealed that since Jakhar assumed the role of Commissioner, she canceled everyones leave, instructing the officers to execute their duties diligently. Jakhar has been observed working even on Sundays.She has also issued strict instructions to officials regarding the citys cleanliness."We are pleased with the KDMC chiefs actions against illegal hawkers, but we demand that these actions continue. In the past, when new KDMC commissioners assumed their roles, they took similar actions, but hawkers soon returned to the streets.
