VARANASI: Devotees visiting the temples in Varanasi, including the Kashi Vishwanath temples, will have to show their negative RT-PCR report which should not be more than 72 hours old. The district administration has advised pilgrims and tourists from across the country to avoid visiting the holy city for pilgrimage amid the recent spurt in coronavirus cases.

Amidst challenges of arranging beds in level-3 and level-2 facilities for the critical Covid-19 patients, divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal and district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma have decided to issue the advisory to discourage the people from gathering at prime shrines, religious and tourist sites.

“Now, producing negative RT-PCR report has been made mandatory for the people thronging prominent temples, including the Kashi Vishwanath temple, Annapurna temple and Sankat Mochan temple. Similar provision has been prescribed for the hotels for accommodating guests in the rooms.” Agrawal said.

Sharma said, “We are also appealing to the pilgrims to avoid visiting Kashi in view of the fresh wave of Covid-19 pandemic. People from other cities are also being advised to visit the city only in case of urgency.” The district administration has already imposed ban on visiting ghats along the Ganga river between 4pm and 6am apart from clamping night curfew.
