Keep Hindu signs found in Gyanvapi survey in DM custody, says court

Varanasi: District judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha on Thursday ordered to keep all signs and evidence of a Hindu temple being found in the on-going Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) scientific study and survey of Gyanvapi mosque in the custody of the district magistrate or an officer nominated by him. Disposing of three applications moved by Rakhi Singh, the main plaintiff in Shringar Gauri worship case (suit no. 18/2022), he issued the order on the plea seeking preservation of signs and evidence of a Hindu temple, Rakhi Singhs lawyers Saurabh Tiwari and Anupam Dwivedi told TOI.However, the district judge disposed of two other applications seeking restricting the number of namazis in Gyanvapi and also sealing and protecting the areas where Hindu signs and symbols found in the previous advocate commissioner survey and also in the on-going ASI Survey till the disposal of the suit, without making any comment though we presented our objections in detail, said Akhlaque Ahmed, the counsel for Anjuman Intezamia Masajid (the Gyanvapi mosque management committee). The survey aims to determine if the 17th-century mosque was built on the site of a pre-existing Hindu temple. The Supreme Court had previously refused to halt the ASIs investigation.
