Varanasi: The Chandauli police arrested former regional co-convenor of BJP Shailendra Pandey alias Kavi on Saturday night on charges of attempt to extort Rs 10 lakh from a doctor employed in a private hospital.According to reports, in a complaint lodged at Dhanapur police station, the doctor alleged he was getting calls from different mobile numbers demanding Rs 10 lakh. The caller had threatened to implicate him in criminal cases if he failed to pay up.Police said that on the basis of the complaint, a case was registered on March 16 under section 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life, etc) against Shailendra Pandey and Pawan Dubey. On March 16, Dubey was arrested and sent to jail, while Pandey remained absconding. An NBW was issued against him on May 31. The victim had planned to issue a statement against Sandhu in a honeytrap and extortion case. Sandhu has been arrested, but his accomplices are still at large. Sandhu was previously arrested for attempting to extort money from a city resident.
