Deadline for installing CNG engines in boats extended

Varanasi: As authorities have decided to stop operation of diesel boats completely in the Ganga here, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation has extended the last date for installation of CNG engines for boatmen to October 7.According to sources a total of 864 diesel engine boats are being converted into CNG engine boats by the municipal corporation through an agency. So far, 735 diesel boats have been converted into CNG engine boats. As 129 boatmen are yet to install CNG engines in their boats, the municipal commissioner has extended the last date for the same to October 7. Additional municipal commissioner Sumit Kumar said notices are being served to 129 boatmen asking them to get CNG engines installed in their boats before the deadline, else legal action will be taken against them under the provisions of National Green Tribunal (NGT). tnnWe also published the following articles recentlyPench patrolling boats to have hi-tech systemTo combat illegal fishing in the Totladoh dam reservoir, the Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, India, will implement underwater surveillance and detection systems. The plan is to equip patrol boats with sonar scanners, which use acoustical waves to locate objects underwater. The system will also include underwater surveillance units and cameras to detect and seize illegal fishing boats. The delivery protocol signing ceremony took place at CSL with representatives from KWML and CSL present. KWML currently operates water metro services on two routes and plans to expand to new routes. Additionally, a tender has been floated for the construction of a Water Metro terminal in Mattancherry, Kochi, which aims to boost tourism and improve connectivity in the area.
