Varanasi: Special Task Force of UP Police on Sunday arrested a notorious criminal identified as Harish alias Chhotu in Mumbai and began legal formalities to bring him to Azamgarh. State police were looking out for Harish for his involvement for killing an elderly couple to rob their cash and valuables in Azamgarh in June.According to STF, on finding his location in Mumbai, a team of the agencys Varanasi field unit, led by sub-inspector Gyanendra Pratap Singh, reached there. The same team succeeded in arresting Harish near Panvel railway station with a mobile phone and cash. He was produced before the local court to seek transit remand for bringing him back to Azamgarh for further investigation. During interrogation, Harish shared that he and his gang members committed loot, murder and other crimes in Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Ambedkar Nagar and adjoining districts. On the intervening night of June 25 and 26, Harish and his accomplices had struck at the house of senior citizen Vishwanath and his wife Shanischari in Parsaha Qayamuddinpur under Nizamabad police station in Azamgarh.After killing the couple, Harsh and his accomplices had chopped their hands and legs too, before decamping with cash and valuables. During investigation, STF had arrested two members of Harishs gang and were looking for him.
