Dreaded looter held following encounter in UP

VARANASI: Following an exchange of fire with police, Lalchandra Saroj, who has 24 criminal cases of loot pending against him, was arrested on Dugauli Khurd road in Jaunpur district late on Saturday.ASP (rural) Shailendra Singh on Sunday said after getting inputs regarding movement of looters, station officers of Badlapur, Singramau and Sujanganj police stations along with their teams cordoned the bridge on Pili river and launched a checking drive. During the checking, when two youths were coming on a motorcycle, the cops signaled them to stop on Dugauli Khurd road. Seeing the cops, the duo diverted from the main road and tried to accelerate the speed of the motorcycle in a bid to escape. However, the one who was riding the bike lost control, following which they fell on the road. Soon after, they opened indiscriminate fire at the cops. When police retaliated, one of the miscreants suffered bullet injuries in his leg and was nabbed while another managed to escape. The arrested accused identified as Lalchandra Saroj of Badlapur is leader of a gang of looters and police had kept a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on him, the ASP said, adding that a country-made revolver, live cartridges, a stolen motorcycle, a mobile phone, cash were recovered from him.He was rushed to a hospital for treatment, said the cop. The other accused, Sachin Chauhan, will also be arrested soon, he added.
