Varanasi: Initial rounds of Sansad Khel Pratiyogita Kashi-2023 started at gram panchayat, schools and university grounds with formal inauguration at Udai Pratap College ground on Monday. Around 2.80 lakh athletes are taking part in 27 games.To mark the beginning of the SKPK-2023, a ceremony was organised at the college ground on Monday morning. UP ministers Ravindra Jaiswal, Dayashankar Mishra Dayalu, mayor Ashok Tiwari and district magistrate S Rajalingam lit the ceremonial lamp. The ministers also flagged off the fit hit of 100 mt sprint while mayor and DM tried their hands at volleyball court to mark the formal beginning of the event.Chief development officer and nodal officer for the event, Himanshu Nagpal, said that with the games flag hoisting ceremony, the event started at all the schools of Varanasi Municipal Corporation, all universities in city limits and 270 gram panchayats. He said that the nodal area for each centre were monitoring the games.While individuals are taking part in huge numbers in 17 athletic including track & field, combat and other games, the number of teams in the games like kabaddi, kho-kho and cricket are also very high. Initial round of the games will continue till Wednesday. After it, the winners of this round will take part in events at Nyaya Panchayat on October 20 and 21, and at zone from October 18 to 21. It will be followed by the development block and zone level rounds from October 27 to 30. The district level rounds will be conducted between November 2 to 5.
