Mirzapur murder key accused arrested within 24 hours

Varanasi: Within 24 hours of the murder of one Vikky Singh (22) in Bhava Babhni village under Jigna police station of Mirzapur district on Wednesday, the Manihan and Lalganj police caught the main accused and leader of gamblers gang Prashant Mishra alias Kalli after an encounter near Kushiyara Fall on Thursday.Kalli, who sustained bullet injuries in his legs, was rushed to the district hospital.Earlier, Mirzapur SP Abhinandan had suspended four policemen including SO Jigna in connection with the murder.On Wednesday evening, Vikky had gone to a pond on the village outskirts where Kalli and his gang members used to do gambling. Here Vikky and Kallis gang members had an altercation over a monetary dispute after which Kalli and three other assailants sprayed Vikky with bullets and fled the scene. Vikky was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.On being informed, Mirzapur SP reached the site. On the complaint of Vikkys father Ajit Singh a named FIR against Kalli, Abhimanyu Singh, Akhilesh Singh and one other was lodged with Jigna police station. On finding out about the activities of Kallis gambling gang, the SP ordered for the suspension of SO Jigna Ravikant Mishra, sub-inspector Rajendra Ram, beat constables Sarvesh Kumar and Komal Pal for failing to check the activities of this gang.The SP said that one of the teams engaged to arrest the accused received inputs regarding the presence of Kalli near Kushiyara Fall. The team, led by inspector Manihan VK Chaurasia and SO Lalganj Ajit Kumar Srivastava cordoned the area. On being surrounded by the police, Kalli tried to escape by opening fire on the police. In retaliatory firing by the police, Kalli suffered bullet injuries in his legs and was arrested. A country-made revolver and live cartridges were recovered from him.
