Run for Unity, bike rally marks Patel’s birth anniv in Varanasi

Varanasi: Events like Run for Unity and motorcycle rally were held on the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to mark the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on Tuesday.District magistrate S Rajalingam and other heads of the departments administered the Unity Pledge to the officers and staff in government offices on the occasion.UP minister Ravindra Jaiswal flagged-off the Run for Unity event at Sampurnanand Sanskrit Universityground in morning.Apart from the DM, chief development officer Himanshu Nagpal, ADM city Alok Kumar Verma, regional cultural office Subhash Chandra Yadav and officials of different departments along with hundreds of citizens took part in the event, which concluded after offering floral tributes to Sardar Patel at Maldahiya crossing. The DM also held a meeting at Rifle Club where he administered Unity Pledge to the officials and employees of the administration and government offices. The Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated Sardar Patels birth anniversary in a grand style by carrying out a Ekta bike rally. The rally commenced from Maldahiya after BJP Kashi regional unit president Dilip Singh Patel, UP minister Ravindra Jaiswal and MLA Neelkanth Tiwari garlanded the statue of Sardar Patel there. After passing through Sigra, Rathyatra, Kamaksha, Bhelupur, Lanka, Sunderpur, Bhikharipur and Manduadih, the rally culminated at the party regional unit office in Rohaniya. Party leaders including mayor Ashok Tiwari, MLC and district chief Hansraj Vishwakarma and city chief Vidyasagar Rai highlighted the contributions of Sardar Patel.Meanwhile, the 95 battalion of CRPF also held a Run for Unity. The run, flagged off by commandant Anil Kumar Briksha at Pahadiya, culminated at CRPF camp office at Pahadiya after passing through Sarnath and Ashapur crossing.
