VARANASI: Massive protests broke out on the Indian Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) campus on Thursday after a student alleged that she was molested on campus by three unidentified men on Wednesday night when she was taking a stroll inside the premises.Boycotting their classes, around 2,000 students started a sit-in at Rajputana hostel crossing and later near IIT-BHU directors office demanding arrest of the accused, upgradation of security on the campus and resignation of the director. On the complaint of the survivor, the Lanka police lodged an FIR under Section 354b, (use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and 66E of IT Act at 7.20 am on Thursday, said commissioner of police, Ashok Mutha Jain."The cops from Lanka police station had reached the spot after being alerted by the institute officials around 3 am," he added. As per the FIR, the incident took place at around 1.30am. Despite filing of FIR and IIT-BHU administrations assurance to students that their demands would be looked into, they continued their sit-in till late evening as they were adamant on calling the institutes director to their protest venue. The survivor has mentioned her complaint that she had come out of her hostel, which is located on the campus itself, for a walk around 1.30 am (on intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday) and when she was passing through Gandhi Memorial hostel crossing, her friend, a boy student of the same institute, met her. After it, the duo reached Karmanbir Baba temple when three miscreants on a motorcycle accosted them. She further alleged that after separating her from her friend, the miscreants dragged her to a secluded place where they forcibly kissed and disrobed her, and made video and photos of the crime. When she tried to raise an alarm, the trio warned her of dire consequences. Her ordeal continued for over 15 minutes after which the three miscreants fled the scene, the complaint mentions. She said that she somehow took shelter inside a nearby compound of a professors residence. Later, the matter was reported to the institutes security personnel. IIT-BHU Students Parliament launched a protest and boycotted all academic activities and gathered near Rajputana crossing for a sit-in protest at the DG Corner. The protesters alleged that such incidents had become common on the campus, but the administration did not take adequate action to ensure security of students. "Its a shame on them that students feel insecure and unsafe on the campus of the one of most reputed institutions of the country," they added. The CP said three teams were formed to nab the accused. Senior officials were deployed to maintain law and order. Officials were going through CCTV footage to identify the miscreants involved, he addedThe IIT-BHU administration issued an order that all barricades in the institute would be closed between 10 pm and 5 am to ensure a safe and secure environment on the campus for staff and students. A plan for restricted entry at night was also issued by the institute.Watch IIT-BHU girl student forcibly kissed by three men on bike inside campus, students stage protest
