Will train badminton players in Varanasi once sports stadium is inaugurated: Gopichand

Varanasi: National Badminton coach Padma Bhushan Pullella Gopichand along with representatives of various athletics federations and Sports Authority of India reached the underconstruction Sampurnanand Sports Stadium on Friday. The stadium is being upgraded under Varanasi Smart City.The members of consultation team including Gopichand, deputy director generals of Sports Authority of India, Sanjay Saraswat and Shiv Sharma, National Sports Science and Research Centers director, Brigadier BK Nayak, chairman of technical committee, Athletics Federation of India, BE Stanley, Uttar Pradesh Table Tennis Associations president Sanjeev Pathak, Indian Boxing Federations Vikram Bhardwaj, Indian Basketball Federations RS Bedi, along with chief general manager of Varanasi Smart City Dr D Vasudevan and other officials, inspected the work in progress at the stadium. Gopichand termed the modernization and redevelopment works at the stadium as a big gift, especially for east UP region. He said that after the inauguration of the project, he will give training to the budding youth of UP through Gopichand Badminton Academy and will also come to Varanasi and train badminton players.
