Gangrape case: Vijay Mishra convicted, punishment today

Varanasi: Jailed mafia don and four-time MLA from Gyanpur Vijay Mishra was declared guilty in a case of gangrape of a singer in 2020 by Bhadohi districts Fast Track Court (MP-MLA) on Friday while his son Vishnu Mishra and grandson Vikas alias Jyoti Mishra were acquitted. Quantum of punishment will be pronounced today, reports Rajeev Dikshit. Providing the details of FTCs judgment to TOI, Bhadohis district government counsel (criminal) Dinesh Pandey said, Mishra has been convicted while other two accused -his son and grandson, were acquitted by the court on Friday.FTC (MP-MLA) court judge Subodh Singh will pronounce the quantum of punishment for Mishra on Saturday.Mishra, who was brought from Agra jail amidst tight security arrangements, remained present in the court to hear the judgment.A woman singer of a locality under Jaitpura police station in Varanasi had lodged a gang rape case with Gopiganj police station in Bhadohi in October 2020. She had alleged that she was called to perform songs at Mishras residence in 2014 and when she was changing clothes before the programme, he entered her room and raped her after issuing threats of dire consequences. Later, he asked Vishnu and Vikas to drop her home but the duo took her to another building and raped her, she added.The woman complainant had further alleged that in 2015 again, Mishra called her to Allapur area in Allahabad and later at a hotel of Varanasi where he raped her. Mishra had also made obscene video clips and used to make video calls to force her for virtual sex, she alleged. Upset over these activities, she started living in Mumbai. She had also attached many clips and screenshots of her mobile along with her complaint.
