IIT-BHU students protest boundary wall around campus

Varanasi: Hundreds of students from different institutes and faculties of the Banaras Hindu University boycotted classes and carried out an Akrosh March on Saturday in protest against the proposal for construction of a boundary wall to provide a closed campus to IIT-BHU with controlled access.Terming the proposal as a bid of creating partition within the BHU campus, students from faculties of law, theology, social science, arts, commerce and agriculture sciences boycotted classes and came out on the road, carrying portraits of BHU founder Pt Madan Mohan Malaviya and reached near the building which was known as students union in the past.They said each student was important on the campus and it could never be partitioned in the name of security of IIT-BHU or Institute of Medical Science with boundary walls. Student Mrityunjaya Tiwari termed the proposal as a bid to kill the dreams of Mahamana.Other speakers, including Patanjali, Abhishek, Shyamal Nandu, Kshitij, Durgesh and Darshit appealed to BHU administration to clear its stand on the proposal, claiming that most of the academicians and staff of university were extending their support. The protesters warned of a massive agitation if the proposal was not retracted. Several groups of students staged massive protests against the proposal near the BHU gate. On the intervening night of November 1 and 2, a girl students of IIT-BHU had been harassed by three motorcycle- borne miscreants.
