Priest injured in stone-pelting during ‘aarti’ at city temple

Varanasi: Panic prevailed at communally-sensitive Laat Bhairo temple in Adampura on Sunday night when some unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked a priest during night Aarti at the temple.On getting information, a heavy police force was deployed at the site while DCP Kashi zone RS Gautam also reached the spot to take stock. The DCP said a complaint has been received from the temple management in this regard and the matter is being probed.In his complaint, the priest said that he was busy performing the night Arti of Lord Laat Bhairo on Sunday night. When he reached near Bhairo Koop (well) outside the temple, stones were pelted at him from the railway track side in Kajjakpur. He suffered injuries in this attack. The temple had been relocated to its current location in 1992 to facilitate the construction of an overpass, but the court deemed it an encroachment and ordered the temple to be shifted to a new location within 15 days. The court also stated that the deities should be shifted to the newly constructed temple once it is completed.Hindu temple in US raided by burglarsBurglars raided a Hindu temple in California, stealing a donation box and leaving the Indian community in shock. The incident occurred at 2:15 am on Monday at the Hari Om Radha Krishna Mandir. The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the burglary, but no arrests have been made. The Coalition of Hindus of North America has called on the police to treat the incident as a potential hate crime. CCTV footage shows the thieves breaking through doors and stealing the donation box, which weighed around 100 pounds.
