17 booked for Nov 4 BHU clash

Varanasi: Lanka police lodged FIR on Monday evening against 17 identified persons and one unidentified, mostly belonging to left wing students organisations, on the complaint of a girl student associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in November 4 evening clash between them. Lanka police inspector Shivakant Mishra said that on the complaint of girl student Megha Mukhopadhyaya, FIR was lodged against 17 identified and one unidentified person in the November 4 incident. Investigation has begun in this matter, he added. In her complaint, she alleged that to seek justice for the girl student molested by miscreants on the campus by three motorcycle-borne miscreants, Megha, along with fellow students, including Aditi Maurya, Shivansh Singh and Rajkumar had gone near BHU gate on November 4. When we reached the BHU gate, a group staging protest there raised anti-Hindutva slogans. When we opposed to their sloganeering, those protesters attacked us, she alleged, adding that some students, including herself, suffered serious injuries, while castist remarks were made for Dalit student Rajkumar. On her complaint, Lanka police lodged FIR under section 147 (rioting), 505(2) (statements conducing to public mischief), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354(b) (use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 504 (intentional insult with intent to breach peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and also sections of SC/ST Act. A large gathering of students also staged a protest in response to the incident. The victims identity has been protected as per Supreme Court directives.
