BHU medico gets global clinician travel award

Varanasi: Professor of the department of Medicine at Institute of Medical Science (IMS), BHU, Jaya Chakravarty, has become the first recipient of the prestigious clinician travel award 2023 of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and hygiene (ASTMH) by American Committee on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health (ACCTMTH). The travel grant recognises a Tropical Medicine Physician practicing in a low middle-income country, who has demonstrated excellent clinical and teaching skills.According to the BHU spokesperson, as a part of this award, Prof Jaya attended the Annual meeting of ASTMH held in Chicago from October 18 to 22. She was invited as a distinguished professor in the Meet the Professor session, where she shared her experience and discussed interesting cases in tropical medicine.She also presented her research on Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in adults in Eastern India: An Etiological study at the ASTMH annual conference. We also published the following articles recentlyExperts from all over world to attend Tamil Nadus Future of Medicine conferenceTamil Nadu plans to invite WHO director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to an international medical conference on the future of medicine in January 2024. The conference will cover various disciplines, including cardiology, nephrology, diabetes, and neurology. Health experts from around the world will attend and present research papers. The conference, to be held from January 19 to 21, will also involve hands-on training for surgeons and mammogram tests for the public. Additionally, Tamil Nadu will construct a research center on the campus of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, equipped with simulation labs, research labs, and telemedicine units.IIT-BHU, BHU authorities go back on boundary wall promiseAfter protests erupted at both Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and IIT-BHU over the proposed construction of a boundary wall, both institutions have decided against the idea. The administrations of BHU and IIT-BHU held a joint meeting and agreed that a boundary wall would not solve the security issues faced by IIT-BHU. Instead, they will focus on reinforcing CCTV surveillance, improving street lighting, and implementing strict security protocols. Both institutions also vowed to strengthen their womens grievance cells and form a joint committee to ensure the safety of students on campus.IIT-BHU to work on proposal for enhancing security on campusThe IIT-BHU administration has agreed to start work on constructing a boundary wall around the institute for controlled access. This decision came after thousands of students protested against the sexual assault of a girl student on campus. Steps to enhance security, such as restricting movement and installing CCTV cameras, were also discussed. Some groups, however, protested against the boundary wall construction, calling it a partition of the BHU campus.
