New machines at IMS-BHU lifeline for heart patients

Varanasi: For the micro and precise treatment of blood vessels of heart patients, two new ultramodern machines --IntraVascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE)-- have been installed in the Cardiology department of Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Institute of Medical Science (IMS), BHU at a cost of Rs 2 crore.Inaugurating the machines on Friday, IMS director Dr SN Shankhwar said the machines, developed with world-class advanced technology, will become a lifelinefor the patients.Head of the department of Cardiology Dr Om Shankar said the state-of-the-art machines will bring revolutionary transformation in the hospitals healthcare services, benefiting patients as well as doctors. Describing the specialty of these machines, Dr. Shankar said, Earlier we had to know the condition inside the arteries from outside. Now, the new machines can also do ultrasound inside the arteries and clean the deposited wastes like calcium and cholesterol to give better results.IVUS is used to image the inside of arteries to check their condition. Measurements of blood vessels can be taken to determine the size and severity of blockages to help determine treatment paths. ICE is designed to image inside of heart using doppler imaging. This allows the physicians to see structures and blood flow inside the heart. The statement was made after US President Joe Biden spoke with Israels Benjamin Netanyahu, although the operation was not discussed during their call. Witnesses have described dire conditions inside the hospital, with limited resources and decomposing corpses.Arson likely caused fire that damaged vital artery of Los Angeles freeway, governor saysA massive weekend fire that charred and closed a section of a Los Angeles freeway was caused by arson, according to California authorities. Governor Gavin Newsom stated that investigators are trying to determine if one person or more were involved. The fire, which broke out on Saturday, damaged columns and guardrails of the freeway. The closure is expected to have a significant impact on the transportation of goods from the ports of LA and Long Beach. The extent of the structural damage caused by the fire is still unknown.
