Varanasi: Two research scholars from Banaras Hindu University (BHU)-- Prashant Ranjan and Chandra Devi-- showcased their pioneering research at the European Congress on Human Genetics held in Paris on November 6 and 7.Prashant Ranjan, a PhD student from the Centre for Genetic Disorders, presented his research work on mammalian tooth regeneration therapy. His research is poised to contribute to the field of regenerative medicine, offering innovative solutions for tooth restoration.Chandra Devi, another PhD student from the Centre for Genetic Disorders, presented her ground-breaking molecular study on Polycystic Kidney Disease. Her work delves into the intricate mechanisms underlying this genetic disorder, paving way for potential therapeutic interventions. We also published the following articles recentlyResearchers identify genetic variations that cause rare, deadly illnessA study published in the Journal of Clinical Immunology has shed light on the genetic variations responsible for a rare and deadly condition called RAD50 deficiency/Nijmegen breakage syndrome-like disorder. The RAD50 gene, along with MRE11 and NBN genes, forms the MRN complex, which repairs DNA breaks. While variants in MRE11 and NBN genes are known to cause illnesses, the implications of RAD50 gene variants have been largely unknown until now. The study found that RAD50 variants can lead to a loss of function of the protein and slower cell replication. This disorder can increase susceptibility to infectious diseases and immune-related conditions.Researchers reveal genetics of near healthy tissue help detect lung cancers returnNew research suggests that genetic data from healthy tissue near lung tumors may be a better predictor of cancer recurrence than analyzing the tumors themselves. The study, led by NYU Langone Health, found that analyzing RNA from apparently healthy tissue accurately predicted recurrence 83% of the time, compared to 63% for tumor RNA. The expression of genes associated with inflammation in adjacent tissue was particularly useful in making predictions. The findings suggest that immunotherapy could be effective in preventing tumor growth before it becomes detectable.Around 400 researchers to attend Odisha Research ConclaveThe Odisha Research Conclave, organized by the higher education department at Sambalpur University, will be attended by around 400 researchers. The event provides a platform for researchers from universities and colleges in the state to showcase their work. Scholars who have received funding from the state government will also exhibit their research output. The conclave will include presentations, roundtable discussions, poster presentations, and lectures by experts.
