Court defers hearing in Gyanvapi case to Nov 24

Varanasi: The court of district judge on Tuesday deferred the date of hearing on the plea of advocate Vijay Shankar Rastogi for making him a party in the civil suit filed by head priest of Acharya Ved Vyas Peeth temple, Shailendra Kumar Pathak Vyas to seek appointment of a receiver of the cellar (Tehkhana) in the southern side of Gyanvapi mosque.Special government counsel for Gyanvapi cases, Rajesh Mishra said that the case could not be taken up before the district judge court on Tuesday and it has now fixed November 24 for further hearing.Vyas had filed his suit before the court of civil judge, senior division on September 25, while an application was also moved before the court of the district judge to get this suit transferred to his court. The district judge had allowed the transfer to his court on October 16. Apart from demanding the appointment of a receiver, Vyas has also sought to direct the receiver to allow the plaintiff, co-pujaris, the nominees of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Trust board and the devotees to perform puja and rituals within the cellar (Tehkhana) existing in the old temple of Lord Adi Visheshwar after making suitable provisions by making appropriate changes in the iron fencing for the purpose within the time provided by the court. The court of the district judge on November 8 reserved its order on the suit after the completion of arguments of the plaintiff and defendant Anjuman Intejamia Masjid (Gyanvapi mosque management committee). The ASI had started the scientific study of the Gyanvapi mosque on July 24 in compliance with the court order.ASI likely to submit Gyanvapi survey report in court todayThe Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is expected to submit its report on the scientific study and survey of Gyanvapi mosque to the court of district judge in Varanasi. The court had ordered the survey to determine whether the mosque was built on the remains of a temple. The ASI may request more time to submit the report. The ASI had previously sought extensions for the survey and had deposited artifacts found during the study in the custody of the district magistrate. The submission of the survey report will reveal if these artifacts are used as evidence.
