Traders shut shops to mark Babri demolition anniv

Varanasi: Observing the day of Babri mosque demolition (1992) as black day, traders in Muslim dominated markets like Dalmandi, Hadha sarai and Nai sadak kept their shops shut on Wednesday.Police officials along with heavy force continued patrolling in these areas. Leading the patrolling team, ACP Dashaswamedh Awadhesh Pandey said that except peaceful closure of the markets there was no other protest, but the sharp vigil was maintained by them as precautionary measure.A local Shaqil Ahmed said that as a tradition that has been continuing since the demolition of Babri mosque in 1992, the traders keep their shops closed voluntarily and that no call is given for market closure by anyone.
