Man tied to tree upside down, thrashed on suspicion of mobile theft

Varanasi: The Mirzapur police arrested a person for allegedly tying a youth upside down to a tree and thrashing him on the suspicion of stealing mobile phone at Mahugadhi in Dramandganj police station area. The incident, which took place on December 3, came to fore after a video of the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday.In the video, the youth was seen tied to a tree upside down and being beaten by few people.He was seen crying and pleading for mercy, while several other locals were present at the site watching the inhuman act as mute spectators.Police officer Manjari Rao said an FIR has been lodged against four persons based on the complaint of the victims mother Chandrakali on Wednesday. She alleged that her son Jaishankar Baheliya was beaten by Rajesh Dharikar and Hansraj of Mahugadhi village, Chhotu Dharikar of Bhatpurva village, and Rajesh Dharikar of Devhat village.
