Norman Ernest Borlaug brings the green revolution in agriculture

    Norman Borlaug came to India in 1963 and, along with Swaminathan, examined its food situation and advised the government on a new course of action. Their work led to a surge in food production and a decline in food prices, and eventually contributed to Borlaug winning the Nobel Prize in 1970.

  • India's first rocket being transported on bicycle

    In 1963 Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched its first rocket from Thumba Equatorial Launching Station. The station had a single launch pad in the midst of coconut plantations. A local Catholic Church the St Mary Magadelene's Church served as the main office for the scientists. The bishop's house was converted into a workshop. A cattle shed became the laboratory in which young Indian scientists like Abdul Kalam Azad worked and the rocket was transported to lift-off pad  on a bicycle.

    Theft of the Holy Relic from the Hazratbal Shrine happenned. The Hazratbal Shrine is a Muslim shrine in Hazratbal, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. It contained a relic, the Moi-e-Muqqadas, believed by many Muslims of Kashmir to be a hair of Muhammad.

    The beautiful north-eastern mountainous state of India came into existence on December 1, 1963. A complicated series of events over 150 years culminated in Nagaland  and thus it became the 16th state of the Indian union.
