Lok Sabha Election Phase 5 Voting Today, Six Union Ministers Among 695 Candidates In Race On 49 Seats

Lok Sabha Polls: The general elections are moving towards conclusion with the fifth phase of polls being held on May 20, Monday. A total of 49 constituencies from six states and two union territories will go to polls in the fifth phase. Several prominent leaders including six union ministers, Rahul Gandhi, Chirag Paswan, and Rohini Acharya, are among the 695 candidates trying their luck in the fifth phase. The contests include Amethi and Raebareli, considered traditional strongholds of Congress, in Uttar Pradesh. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Raebaereli, a seat represented by his mother Sonia Gandhi since 2004. Rahul Gandhi has also contested from Wayanad in Kerala and it remains to be seen if he wins both seats. Key Seats In Lok Sabha Polls Mumbai: Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai are among 13 seats in Maharashtra that will see voting on Monday and the high-profile candidates include Union Minister Piyush Goyal. While candidates of Congress and BJP are in the fray, it is also a battle that will decide who among the Shiv Sena factions has larger support among voters. Hajipur: Another interesting fight will be in Bihars Hajipur where LJP (Ram Vilas) leader is seeking to retain the legacy of his father Ram Vilas Paswan, a former union minister, who won the seat several times. In 2014, Smriti Irani lost her first election from this seat, but later, in 2019, she defeated Rahul Gandhi. Lucknow: This Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh is considered the stronghold of BJP. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has registered two consecutive victories from the Lucknow seat and is in the fray for the third term. Meanwhile, BSP has given ticket to Mohammad Sarwar Malik and SP has fielded Ravidas Mehrotra. A total of 10 candidates, including two independents, have contested the Lucknow elections. These Seats Will Go To Polls In Phase 3 Maharashtra: Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central and Mumbai South. Bihar: Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Saran and Hajipur. Odisha: Bargarh, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Aska Jharkhand: Chatra, Koderma, Hazaribagh. West Bengal: Barrackpur, Bangaon, Howrah, Uluberia, Sreerampur, Hooghly and Arambagh. Ladakh: The sole constituency of Ladakh, will go to polls first time since the abrogation of Article 370. Jammu and Kashmir: The Baramulla constituency will go to polls first time since the abrogation of Article 370. Lok Sabha Polls 2024 The general elections are being held across the country in seven phases. The first four phases were held on April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13, while the subsequent phases are scheduled on May 20, May 27 and June 1. The counting of votes will happen on June 4. While the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a third straight term in power, the Opposition INDIA bloc is aiming to wrest back power from the incumbent BJP.
