Lok Sabha Polls: What`s Opened And What`s Closed During Phase 5 Of Elections

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 5: Voting for the fifth phase of the general elections will take place on May 20. A total of 695 candidates will contest elections in eight states and Union territories. Voting will start at 7 AM and will end at 6 PM. Notably, the fifth phase is the smallest in terms of number of seats being polled across all seven phases. From Rahul Gandhi to Smriti Irani, from Karan Bhushan Singh to Chirag Paswan; many big names will have their fate at stake during the fifth phase of general elections. Meanwhile, under the Representation of People Act, of 1951, it is mandatory to close all businesses and establishments lying in the area where elections are being held on the polling day. Lets take a look at what will remain open and closed: Lok Sabha Polls: These Services Will Remain Opened Banks will carry on with business as usual in any cities that arent on the list. On election day, important government services, such as hospitals and clinics, will continue to run. The places where banks will remain closed include Belapur, Lucknow, and Mumbai. Public Holiday: A paid holiday on the voting day would be offered to workers, officers, employees, and voters in the designated regions, as per the Maharashtra government circular, as reported by ET. Liquor Shop: Liquor stores in the polling constituencies will stay closed beginning 48 hours prior to the election. Educational Institutions: All educational institutions including all schools and colleges will remain closed.  Stock market: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will also remain closed on the voting day.
