What Is The Right Way Of Double Masking? Why Should Everyone Do It

Scientists and medical health practitioners have been highlighting the need to wear masks to contain the spread of coronavirus ever since the pandemic began. While there have been many cases of people taking this advice for granted and not wearing masks properly (by wearing it below their nose and so on), latest research has established that wearing two tightly-fitted face masks can nearly double the protection against the virus. Scientists have claimed that double masking or the act of wearing two tightly-fitted face masks, has proven to be highly effective in filtering out SARS-CoV-2-sized particles, preventing them from reaching the wearer`s nose and mouth.

What Is Double Masking?

Double masking is said to create a strong barrier against the virus. Double masking, with cloth and surgical masks, helps in preventing leakage of air. Double masking is the practice of layering one mask on top of another. It helps in improving the fit and filtration of your mask. Many masks do not fit our face properly and hence there are chances that the air could escape or the virus could get in touch, so it`s safe to double mask when heading out for essential work or at a crowded place.

How To Double Mask The Right Way:

Layering the mask properly is very important. Wearing a cloth mask over a surgical mask is a combination that will ensure your utmost safety. There could be mask combinations which might not fit right or might not be the best to try and block breathing; for example, two surgical masks or two N95 masks might not be the best combination to try. Before directly wearing it while stepping out, do test it at home first to check the fit, breathing and comfort. A double mask is a good choice when you are stepping out to get essentials, visiting a doctor or travelling by public transport.
