Manduadih railway station will now be renamed as Banaras railway station

While Kashi is the ancient name of the city, Varanasi is the amalgamation of Varuna and Asi, the name of the two rivers in the region. Banaras, on the other hand, means bana rahe ras, which actually reflects the original culture of the city as people here know how to enjoy and live their lives to the fullest.

The Uttar Pradesh government got approved from Home Ministry on Monday, to change the name of Manduadih railway station to Banaras railway station

The UP government has requested to change the name of the railway station that falls in Varanasi district as Banaras. This comes after the state government renamed the Mughalsarai Junction in Varanasi as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya junction.

Now that the UP government has received a `no objection certificate`, the work will soon begin to change the name. For the name changing process, approval of the home ministry is required. To rename any village or town or a city, an executive order is required while for changing the name of a state, amendment of the Constitution with the majority in Parliament is needed.

While Kashi is the ancient name of the city, Varanasi is the amalgamation of Varuna and Asi, the name of the two rivers in the region.
