New Delhi, May 6: At a time there is flurry of not very positive news about academic institutions in the U.S., the attraction between the people of the two countries in the areas of education shows no signs of fraying. This is all the more important as Indians constitute the largest segment of foreign students in the U.S.

An unimpeachable proof of the strong educational bond between the two countries is a visit by representatives from four of the oldest and most prestigious boarding schools for girls in the United States to Delhi and Mumbai this week to engage with local educators, gain insight into the Indian education system, and highlight opportunities for Indian students to pursue higher school studies abroad.

The visiting delegation included school leaders from Dana Hall School (near Boston), Emma Willard School, New York, The Madeira School near Washington DC and Westover School, Connecticut, known for their commitment to empowering young women through rigorous academics, leadership development, and global citizenship.

During the visit, the representatives met with students and school administrators of seven different schools in order to foster connections between the Indian and U.S. education communities while offering students a closer look at the transformative experience of studying at an American girls’ boarding school.

“Our schools are deeply committed to preparing girls to lead with confidence and purpose,” said one of the delegates. “This visit is an exciting opportunity to listen, learn, and share what our schools offer young women from around the world.” The variety of Indian schools, the attentive engagement of the students and the insightful questions they posed impressed the U.S. delegation. The U.S. schools share the some similar values and at the same time each school is unique.

Emma Willard School, a distinguished all-girls boarding and day school nestled in the historic city of Troy, New York State, USA, has for over 200 years, been empowering young women from around the globe to become confident scholars, ethical leaders, and engaged global citizens.  Established in 1881, Dana Hall believes that academic excellence is best realized in girls whose social and emotional needs are equally considered with their intellect. The Madeira School, founded in 1906 to launch women who change the world, offers an award-winning Co-Curriculum program where every student completes three real-world internships. Westover School, founded in 1909, empowers young women to lead lives of impact through a dynamic curriculum and distinctive signature programmes.

The educational visits were coordinated with the help of the Directors of TALIEM, India, Mr. Pinku Biswas & MrAyan Biswas. TALIEM is a Liaison Centre for International Educational Institutions, collaborating for the past three decades with some of the world’s most prestigious boarding schools, colleges and universities.
