The National Campaign Against Torture (NCAT) has urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to order the Tripura government to hand over the investigation into Pindulal Chakma murder case to the CBI. The NCAT in its complaint to the NHRC also called upon to invoke the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Pindulal Chakma, a scheduled tribe of Laljuri Burshingpara under Kanchanpur Police Station in North Tripura district succumbed to his injuries on November 4. About 150-200 “non-tribal people”, including those who constructed the Pandal, attacked the peaceful protestors with a machete, lathi etc and grievously injured Pindulal Chakma and Bikanta Chakma. The NCAT in its complaint further urged the NHRC to provide relief to the next of kin of Pindulal Chakma and injured Bikanta Chakma and other victims.
