    On December 2, V.P. Singh became the seventh Prime Minister of India after Lok Sabha elections. Following the debacle of Rajiv Gandhi’s government in 1989, there was couple of subsequent governments formed under coalition, of which one was formed by the VP Singh.

    On November 15, Sachin Tendulkar made his debut in international cricket as a 16-year-old against Pakistan at the National stadium in Karachi.He scored 15 before a fellow-debutant (Waqar Younis) cleaned him up.

    May 22- Agni-I was first tested at the Interim Test Range in Chandipur in 1989, capable of carrying a conventional payload of 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) or a nuclear warhead. The Agni I has a range of 700–1250 km.

  • Kidnapping of Rubaiya Saeed

    On December 8, the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed was carried out by members of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front. Rubaiya was the daughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, then the Home minister of India in the V. P. Singh government. The kidnappers demanded the release of five of their militants in exchange for Rubaiya's release and the Central government accepted their demands and freed the jailed militants.

  • Debut of Salman Khan in a leading Role

    On December 29, Maine Pyar Kiya released and marked the debut of Khan in a leading role after he appeared in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) in a supporting role. The film was declared as an "All Time Blockbuster" by the Box Office India.
