    On August 3, a 23 –year old nervous yet resilient Leander Paes won India's first individual Olympic medal in 44 years. Leander defeated Brazil’s Fernando Meligeni in the Bronze medal match.Over that glorious week in Atlanta, he beat some of the biggest names in World tennis, all ranked much higher than him. It was a superhuman effort.

  • World's deadliest mid-air collision

    Mid-air collision occurred on 12 November 1996 over the village of Charkhi Dadri, to the west of New Delhi, India. The aircraft involved were a Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747-100B en route from Delhi to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and a Kazakhstan Airlines Ilyushin Il-76 en route from Chimkent, Kazakhstan, to Delhi. The crash killed all 349 people on board both planes, making it the world's deadliest mid-air collision.

  • Unauthorised arms dropped in Purulia

    Unauthorised arms were dropped from an Antonov An-26 aircraft in Purulia district in the state of West Bengal in India.The chief accused "Kim Davy" claims that it was a conspiracy of the Congress Indian government together with RAW and MI5 to overthrow the communist government in West Bengal and he was given assurances from the central government about his safety and return to Denmark. He further alleges that MP Pappu Yadav, in association with the then Prime Minister of India, P. V. Narasimha Rao facilitated his safe exit from India.

    The King of Pop, arrived in Mumbai on October 30th,1996 at Mumbai's Sahar airport in his private jet. Lakhs of people had thronged the airport to catch a glimpse of him. Jackson was greeted by Sonali Bendre clad in a nine-yard sari and a Maharashtrian nathni , standing with an aarti thali to welcome MJ, along with Raj Thackeray, Sharmila Thackeray and innumerable politicians who were there to receive Jackson. Lakhs of people had thronged the airport to catch a glimpse of him.
