Outbreak of Pneumonic Plague , Samba Spy scandal

From 26 August to 18 October 1994, there was an outbreak of bubonic and pneumonic plague in south-central and southwestern India. Cases of pneumonic plague were found in the city of Surat, Gujarat. By September 26, several hundred pneumonic plague cases and numerous deaths were noted. Surat was officially closed.

On January 26, India rolled out the short-range Prithvi missile at Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. Prithvi- a tactical surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missile developed by DRDO of India under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP).

They were arrested on the charge of espionage and accused(by Intelligence Bureau) of accepting millions of dollors from Maldivians, although nothing was ever found to support that claim.

Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss World 1994 in Sun City, South Africa in 44th edition of the Miss World.The pageant attracted 87 contestants from around the world. At the end of the night, a 21-year-old architecture student, was crowned the new Miss World.
Sushmita Sen also became the Miss Universe the same year.
