Bomb blasts rock Bombay, Earthquake shakes Maharashtra

On March 12, A series of 12 bomb explosions took place in Mumbai, India, then known as Bombay. The coordinated attacks were carried out in revenge for riots that killed many Muslims and the single-day attacks resulted in 257 fatalities and 717 injuries. The attacks were coordinated by Dawood Ibrahim, through his subordinates Tiger Memon and Yakub Memon.

On March 9, All Parties Hurriyat Conference was formed as a united political front to raise the cause of Kashmiri separatism. It was an alliance of secessionist parties and leaders and had brought together two separate ideologies: those who sought J&K’s independence from both India and Pakistan, and those who wanted J&K to become part of Pakistan.

Upon his death, the Indian Parliament was adjourned in his memory – an honour not usually given to persons who are not members of parliament. He was a French-born Indian aviator, entrepreneur, chairman of Tata Group and the shareholder of Tata Sons.
